Our last assignment was to copy or re-create some primitive art.

I selected this fabulous horse from the Lascaux cave in France. It is located in the area called the "Painted Gallery"

Time Period: 15000 - 10000 BC

I chose this one to copy because I loved the texture of the image and I felt that I would have some success using coloured charcoal or pastels. I found the charcoal worked better since the pastels became too smooth. When I looked closer, I found that there were more colours in the image than I had originally noticed. I also found hints of an ear and mouth when I looked closely. I especially love the round belly and the bold feet. I decided not to include the other markngs on the wall of the cave since they detracted from the image and I wanted to focus on the horse.
