I took the "Intro to Archaeology" class at George Brown this fall and since I wasn't able to get to the last couple classes I am posting my assignments here.
The assignment was:

1 walk through the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto)

2 Find a display case which has a "Temporarily Removed" card (it could be amusing to pick something you cannot identify!)

3 Under the heading, "Card", write down everything that has been printed on the card

4 Under the heading, <>, note everything you will need to find the item again (floor, gallery or exhibition hall, time period [if applicable], display case, etc.). Imagine that you had to bring someone back to show them your "find".

5 Draw the object with pencil, marker, or pen. Be creative !

6 When you are finished jot down the dimensions of the object. Or if you are really ambitious, add a scale.

My assignment results:

Statuette of Hathor in Human Form

Bronze Late Period c. 600 BC

"Location"

Third Floor, Egypt "Shrines + Offerings" (across from Tomb of Kitines)

I discovered that Hathor is a goddess and that "She was depicted either as a cow or in human form wearing a crown consisting of a sun disk held between the horns of a cow." I tried to keep all the limbs in close since I felt that they would be less likely to break off and it would have been easier for the sculptor. She is wearing a simple dress with a layered skirt and a beaded necklace.
